Sheer

First and foremost, I didn't leave you guys hanging.....Life has been pretty busy SO I had to step away from the fashion/blogging world.
I just wanted to do a quick post because I was scrolling through the lovely but addicting pinterest and this photo popped up.

I was thinking to myself...Do I really like sheer?  And I said no because sheer has been used way too much that I got sick of it. Do you know what I mean?

If you like clothing that has sheer than I want to know why?  I want to hear your opinion.

Green

Although CHRISTmas has passed and we are moving into the new year (Still can't believe it is gonna be 2013...where does time go?) I still love this green.   I used to hate green due to the fact that I thought it was to CHRISTmasy.   But now I officially love it, I want to make a maxi skirt with the color green in it.

Do you like green?  If not why?

Drab to fab!

My new favorite look is the "casual and comfy look."  This look is where you throw (not literally..hehe!)  on a shirt and shorts, put some jewelry on, and slide your feet into some cute sandals! I just love how care-free it looks. Usually when I try to accomplish this style this is what it turns out to be.......

Not pretty! RIGHT? I know it looks extremely comfortable but I would not want to be seen like this! So my fashion goal this summer is to accomplish the "laid back/ care-free look." Do you have any fashion goals this summer?

LONG//SHORT

There's a new trend going around in the fashion world this Summer.  It's long in the back, short in the front.  Here are a few examples:

I love this look.  It gives it a casual feel and it's a great balance between the maxi and a short-length skirt.  I also can make a otherwise boring plain cotton skirt more fun with the length in the back.

I don't have one of these skirts (yet!), but I tried it out with a longer shirt I have and some light-washed denim shorts.

Tight Skirts!

All the sudden my new favorite style is, tight skirts. I know this might come as a surprise to some people but I really do love these type of skirts.
I think they are super cute for the Summer. Wear a loose top (like the middle and last photo) and a solid color skirt and flip flops....or, because I don't wear flip flops, cute sandals.  The fun thing about these skrits are you can dress them up and dress them down. The middle photo is really dressing this skirt down. She put a couple braclets, a ring, layered some necklaces, and a solid color t-shirt on.  That is a great way to wear this skirt to see friends or see a movie.
I would say the last photo shows a great example on how to wear these type of skirts on a night out! Wear a graphic tee (preferably a really "loose" t-shirt) any type of tight skirt. Either solid, or a print (i.e cheetah, polka dots, zebra) And then put a simple high heel with it.  And then you are ready to go!

Low Cut Dresses.

I used to think dresses like these were..."inappropriate"  And to some people it could be. But to me it is a beautiful cut.  This cut, where it is higher in the front (not showing but pretty sure it is)  and lower in the back are classic, sexy, and simple.

Do you like these kind of dresses? If not why? I would love to hear your opinions on this dress!

how to 'pull off' boyfriend jeans

Hey, everyone!  I'm alive.  Sorry, I took a break from blogging :)  I'm back now though!  And ready to rejoin the fashion blogging world :)

Anyways, I'm going to talk about boyfriend jeans!  There are many ways to wear them. I'll try to break them down for you.

The key to pulling off boyfriend jeans is that you have to get the proportions and the top right.  Since the jeans are more slouchy, it's okay to wear a more slouchy shirt with it.  In this photo, she has a great example of denim on denim, and also how to make it super casual.

This isn't really boyfriend jeans... but I think the top is a great idea to pair with boyfriend jeans.  She paired a button down with an oversized sweater.  Perfect.

Again - the proportions are perfect.  The top is also not too tight - which is key.

In this outfit, I think this woman perfectly showed how to make boyfriend jeans more formal.  She added heals and some great bracelets with an oversized bag to make it less casual.

I lovelove this look.  The floral scarf with the sweater and light-washed jeans is so lovely!

One more thing to remember - make sure you get the proportions right.  In each of these outfits, none of the tops were too long.  If they went too long, you'd end up looking really short (which is not good for us super short girls ;)) and probably would throw off your whole outfit.

Hope you enjoyed this post :) I'm glad to be back!

The latest color on trend is, emerald green. Maybe it's just because St Patties was only 2 days ago, but I really enjoy this color. This color is so lovely. I think this color goes with everything. Emerald green is almost like a black to me! What do you think about this color? Do you like it as much as I do? Or do you absolutely hate it?

t-shirts

Sorry we've been MIA lately!  We've been extremely busy.  We're back now ready to give some more fashion advice!

+++

I see it from across the room.  It's a sleeveless top with an amazing picture on the front.  When I get to it, it has the Beatles plastered across the back.  (Now, let me get one thing straight: the Beatles are not my "cup of tea", I just loved the look).  I quickly grabbed it and ran to try it on.  Here it is:

Now you're probably going, "Really, t-shirts are fashionable?"  Well, not exactly.  But!  There's a way to be fashionable with them.  Here are a few rules:

  • It has to be the right kind of t-shirt.  Go to H&M or Urban Outfitters to find the perfect fit.  It should be well made, and have something on the front.  Not plain or anything like that.
  • Pair it with a nice pair of denim shorts and boots (particularly combat boots, or something to that effect.  The boots are what will really make it more fashionable.
  • Accessorize correctly!  Add some long earrings, or something to catch people's eyes.  Try a chunky bracelet or necklace too.
  • If you're feeling even more daring, wear some tights under the shorts.  This can add a lot more appeal and is extremely eye catching!
Well, there it is!  How to fashionably wear a t-shirt.  It's perfect for a casual day out with friends.  If you happen to try it, we'd love to see it!  Email a photo to us or post the link in the comments section!

pulling it off

as a fashion-lover, i'm always looking for ways to be wild.  i get a lot of comments like, "Oh, I could never pull those off!", or, "Emma, only you can pull those off.".  To be truthful, that statement kind of bothers me.

it doesn't matter if you're a loud or wild person, you can pull everything off.  i know some people that go to a store and say, "Oh, I'd love to have that, but I can't pull it off.".  Yes, actually you can.  that's because it's not about the clothes, it's about the attitude.

if you want to pull something off, you have to have the confidence, or, as i like to call it, the swagger.  if you don't have confidence, you can't wear it.  today, i wore pink jeans.  i think about 90% of the people i saw gave me this shocking look, and probably 50% told me only i could pull them off.

so, what i'm trying to say is that if you want to wear pink jeans, wear them.  if you want to wear floral tights, wear them.  before you do, though, you have to make sure you have enough confidence to wear them and to not care if anyone looks at you like you're a freak.

the best fashion icons take major chances, and get the most attention from it.

here are a few examples of taking chances in fashion:

oh, and then there's me....

p.s. when you take chances, you're going to get looks after looks after looks of shock... ignore them.  ignore them all.  bright is better than boing.

denim on denim

denim on denim is something we've been seeing a lot of inside the style world lately.  it's one of my favorite looks, i just haven't been able to try it!  denim tops are very hard to find!  anyways, here are a few outfits i set up on polyvore to show you how to achieve this classic look.

denim on denim pt 1

denim on denim pt 1 by iamemmaclaire featuring tote hand bags

this first outfit is the most basic way to do denim on denim.  the key to this classic outfit is that the washes of the denim need to be different.  so, i paired a dark-wash jean with this lovely lighter-wash button down.  these button downs are all over Goodwill, if you're in need of one!  i then just paired simple colors to go with it.  if you're not a very loud person, this outfit is perfect for you!

denim on denim pt 2

denim on denim pt 2 by iamemmaclaire featuring an envelope clutch

this second outfit is a little different than the other one!  i used a long denim long shirt and a lighter wash of jean.  i'm also featuring an orange envelope clutch and a creme gladiator sandle.  this outfit is probably just as basic as the other one, but i think it's a little more dynamic.
denim on denim pt 3

denim on denim pt 3 by iamemmaclaire featuring crochet hats

wondering how to achieve this look in the summer?  try this outfit!  i paired a vintage white-wash tee with some dark shorts.  i added a lot of accessories.  it's so hard to find a great pair of denim shorts that aren't short, boring, or just plain average (haha).  i found a great pair of denim shorts at H&M last summer and wear them all the time.  here at be now we are strong believers in shopping at H&M, because we think their clothes are not so average, so go check them out!

and, finally, here is the look in action:

i hope you enjoyed my little overview of this great outfit, and i hope it inspires you to be different and wear denim on denim!

xoxo,
emma
